Assistant professor at the Department of East Asian Studies of the University of Łódź and researcher of its Center for Asian Affairs. He teaches modern history and politics of China. His research focuses on China’s foreign policy (including Sino-Central European relations), and China’s state-building policies in the north-western. Kowalski was a participant in research workshops including the University of Oslo and Nanjing University; has research experience in the PRC and Taiwan. Between 2014-2017 he was engaged in the project “Ideas and Identity in China’s Foreign Policy”, granted by the Polish National Science Center. Member of training projects on Polish-Chinese foreign policy and public diplomacy for local governments and business institutions financed by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in 2014 and 2018); co-author of “Guide to Cooperation with Chinese Local Authorities”.
